Wekukronkron is an eye-gripping Afro-Pop band, when it comes to stage performance, fully packed with classical songs. ‘Authentic music!’ as the brand stands for, aims at portraying Africa’s rich culture through music to the world.
The band was formed in Ghana by Moses Batintora, the bandleader, on the 2nd of December, 2006. His missionary zeal was then supported by Boniface Batintora, Francisca Allotey, and Clement Teiko Agbo, as they became the pioneers of the band. The bandleader, who holds a Bachelor’s Degree of Art in Music, has trained numerous musicians through his foundation.
As the band has chosen Afro-Pop genre for this very mission, the band composes songs in languages from different cultures in Africa—not let alone songs in English and French languages that cut across borders. As an Afro-Pop band, they use local instruments from different cultures in Africa, in addition to western instruments for their compositions. They use four singers at frontline who are wind-instrumentalists as well. The band has composed and recorded more than 50 songs to their credit.
Since the group was formed, they had being awarded and performed on countless renowned platforms. They have had interviews from numerous media platforms, due to their virtuoso performance and authentic music, as mentioned.
In the year 2012, the band won an award for ‘Best Afro Band’ which was organized by IMD (Institute for Music and Development). They composed and recorded a song entitled ‘Vegetation’ during this competition to create awareness on Forest Protection.
Their mesmeric stage performance has catapulted them to well-renowned platforms like RTP Award, Winners Party(Alisa Hotel), Celebrating Accra(Obra Spot Park), New Music Ghana(Goethe Instute), Sound Splash(TV Africa), KSM Show(Thanks God Is Friday), Afro Jazz Concert, etc.
